Greek summers can be very hot and humid, and though the islands benefit
from the cooling sea breeze, the most pleasant time to visit is in the
shoulder seasons from April to mid-June, and late-August to
mid-October. On the larger, more popular islands, some tourist
attractions stay open year round, though most are closed for the winter
between October and April. The most famous summer event is the Hellenic
festival which takes place between June and September and features
dance, drama, music and much more in ancient, mostly open-air theatres.
